Angels exist in Jewish, Christian and Islamic Scripture

It is believed that God created Angels out of light, before He created humans from earth and clay. Angels are naturally obedient creatures, worshipping God and carrying out His commands. As such, they have no free choice and cannot disobey God.

Belief in Angels is one of the six Articles of Faith in Islam. The table below lists a few popular Angels in the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Apollyon Abaddon is the Angel of the bottomless pit who appears to be a ruler of evil spirits as described in the book of Revelation.

Azrael Azrael is responsible for parting the soul from the body. He is not mentioned by name, only referred as Malak Al-Maut, meaning Angel of Death in the Quran

Beelzebul claims to cause destruction through tyrants, to cause demons to be worshipped among men, to excite priests to lust, to cause jealousies in cities and murders and to bring on war.

  • Appeared to Mary, informing her that she would be the mother of Jesus
  • In the Quran, God sent Gabriel to Mary, and he came to her in the shape of a man in every respect. God commanded him to blow into a gap of her garment and that breath went into her womb through her private part; this is how Jesus was conceived

In Islam, Mikail is often depicted as the archangel of mercy who is responsible for bringing rain and thunder to Earth. He is also responsible for the rewards doled out to good people in this life.

Muslims believe the questioning will begin when the funeral and burial is over. Munkar and Nakir will prop the deceased soul upright in the grave and ask three questions:
  • Who is your Lord?
  • What is your religion?
  • Who was this person sent to you (Muhammad)?
