10 Red Heifers (Cows)

Building a Third Temple in Jerusalem is the dream for the messianic branches of Judaism and Christianity

Heifer is a young cow, over one year old, that has not borne a calf. Red heifers were slaughtered as sacrifices in the Jewish Temple and the ashes were used in purification rituals, especially for people who had become impure through contact with dead bodies.

The extreme rarity of the animal, combined with the detailed ritual in which it is used, have given the red heifer special status in Jewish tradition.

Evidence for Red Heifer

Moses ben Maimon (1135-1204 AD), or Maimonides, or Rambam, was a medieval Sephardic Jewish philosopher who became one of the most prolific and influential Torah scholars of the Middle Ages. During his life, Maimonides was a rabbi, astronomer, physician and philosopher.

In his Mishna commentary, Maimonides wrote:

..and the 10th red heifer will be accomplished by the king, the Messiah; may he be revealed speedily, Amen, May it be God's will.

The unblemished red heifer 'cow' be ritually slaughtered, and burnt with cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet wool. The burnt heifer's ashes are mixed with pure water to make "mei nida" (purifying water).

Some people in Israel see her birth a year ago on a small farm as a momentous sign from God. Melody, the cow has an armed guard.
