36 Scientific Discoveries |
1. The 'Big Bang' Creation of the UniverseHave those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?
According to the 'Big Bang', the whole universe was initially one big mass (Primary Nebula). Followed by a 'Big Bang' (Secondary Separation) which resulted in the formation of Galaxies. These then divided to form stars, planets, the sun, moon etc. |
2. Gas Clouds present before Creation of GalaxiesThen He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly."
Today, Scientists say that before the galaxies in the universe were formed, gaseous matter (clouds) were present. |
3. Earth is Spherical Egg-shapeAnd after that He spread the earth (dahaahaa)
The Arabic word "dahaahaa" (ostrich egg) resembles the geo-spherical shape of the earth. The Quran describes the earth as 'ostrich egg' shaped, even though people believed the earth was flat at the time. |
4. Moon reflects the Sun's LightBlessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon.
The Arabic word "Shams" (sun) is a torch, blazing lamp or shining glory. Today, we know the moon does not give off light itself and is an inert body that reflects the sun's light. |
5. Sun rotates about its own AxisAnd it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming.
The arabic word "yousabbihoona" (swimming) applies to the sun, moon and planets which are rotating in orbit in space. |
6. Sun will extinguish after a certain periodAnd the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
The arabic word "mustaqarr" (determined place/time) shows that the sun will run to a determined place/time, after which it will end. The light of the sun is due to a chemical process on its surface which has run for 5 billion years. At some point it will end; leading to instant extinction of all earthly life. |
7. Universe is ExpandingAnd the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
The arabic word "Moosioon" (expanding it) refers to the creation of the expanding universe. Today, scientists acknowledge the universe is indeed expanding and growing in size. |
8. Particles smaller than AtomsNot absent from Him is an atom's weight within the heavens or within the earth or [what is] smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear register
The arabic word "Zarrah" (atom) shows it is possible for something smaller than the atom to exist. This was only recently discovered by modern science. |
9. Earth's Water CycleAnd We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
The water cycle is where water evaporates from the oceans and cools to form clouds. The clouds move inland where they rise, condense and fall as rain. This water gathers as lakes and streams and flows back to the ocean in a continuous cycle. |
10. Winds impregnate the Clouds"And We send the fecundating winds, Then cause the rain to descend From the sky, therewith providing You with water (in abundance)
The Arabic word lawaqih (impregnate) means that the wind pushes the clouds together increasing the condensation that causes lightning and thus rain. |
11. Geology: Mountains like Pegs (stakes)Have We not made the earth a resting place? And the mountains as stakes?
And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided. Geologists say the earth's radius is about 3750 miles and the thin crust on which we live is 1 to 30 miles. Since the crust is thin, it has a high possibility of shaking. Mountains act like stakes or tent pegs that hold the earth's crust together and keep the land stable. |
12. Mountains firmly fixed in EarthAnd the mountains He set firmly
These are the strong foundations on which mountains stand. |
13. Barrier between Sweet & Salt WatersHe released the two seas, meeting [side by side];Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses.
The Arabic word "barzakh" (barrier). This is not a physical partition. Modern Science has discovered that in areas where two seas meet, their is a barrier between them. This barrier divides the two seas so that each sea has its own temperature, salinity and density. |
14. Darkness in Ocean depthOr [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, upon which are waves, over which are clouds - darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allah has not granted light - for him there is no light.
Scientists have recently confirmed with the help of modern equipment their is darkness in the depths of the ocean. |
15. Every living thing is made of WaterHave those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?
Today we know that "cytoplasm", the cell is 80% water. Modern research has also revealed that most organisms consist of 50% to 90% water and that every living entity requires water for its existence. |
16. Botany - Plants created in pairs, Male and Female[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.
Botany states that every plant has a male and female gender. Even the plants that are unisexual have distinct elements of both male and female. |
17. Fruits created in pairs, Male and FemaleAnd from all of the fruits He made therein two mates;
Fruit is the end product of reproduction of the superior plants. The stage preceding fruit is the flower, which has male and female organs (stamens and ovules). |
18. Everything made in pairsAnd of all things We created two mates; perhaps you will remember.
Humans, animals, plants and fruits have male and female. Electricity consists of positive and negative atoms, charged electrons and protons. |
19. Animals and Birds live in CommunitiesAnd there is no creature on [or within] the earth or bird that flies with its wings except [that they are] communities like you.
Research has shown that animals and birds live in communities, i.e. they organize, and live and work together. |
20. The flight of BirdsDo they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded in? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing.
The Arabic word "amsaka" (hold) expresses the idea that Allah holds the birds up in His power. |
21. The Bee are good at sharing routesAnd your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct.
The bee, after discovering any new garden or flower, goes back and shares with its fellow bees the exact location and directions to get there. This is know as the 'bee dance'. The information passed between bees has been discovered scientifically using photography and other methods. |
22. The Bee produces Honey as a HealerThen eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
The bee assimilates juices from various flowers and fruits within its body to produce honey, which it stores in cells of wax. Honey has remarkable healing properties, as well as mild antiseptic property for human beings. |
23. Spider Web (home) is fragile and weakThe example of those who take allies (friends) other than Allah is like that of the spider who takes a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew.
In the spider parable, we are reminded to believe in and trust God and none besides Him. |
24. Ants have human-like lifestyles and communicationAnd gathered for Solomon were his soldiers of the jinn and men and birds, and they were [marching] in rows. Until, when they came upon the valley of the ants, an ant said, "O ants, enter your dwellings that you not be crushed by Solomon and his soldiers while they perceive not."
Research shows the animals or insects whose lifestyle is closest in resemblance to humans is that of the ants. |
25. Milk comes from an impure environmentAnd indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies - between excretion and blood - pure milk, palatable to drinkers.
Milk is pure and drinkable. It is produced in a chemical reaction in the body's intestines amongst impurities such as blood, excrement and liver. |
26. Man came from a leech-like substanceRecite in the name of your Lord who created - Created man from a clinging substance.
The Arabic word "alaq" (congealed clot of blood) It also means something that clings, a leech-like substance. |
27. Man came from between Back-bone and RibsSo let man observe from what he was created. He was created from a fluid, ejected, Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.
In embryonic stages, the reproductive organs of the male (testicles) and female (ovaries) begin their development near the kidney, between the spinal column and the 11th/12th ribs. Later on, the reproductive organs descend; the female (ovaries) stop in the pelvis and the male (testicles) continue their descent to reach the scroturn through the inguinal canal. |
28. Human baby created from minute quantity of liquidAnd Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you mates.
Science confirms that only 1 of 3,000,000 emitted sperm (or 0.00003%) is required to fertilize the female ovum. |
29. Humans created from a 'concentrated' liquidThen He made his posterity out of the extract of a liquid disdained.
The Arabic word "sulalah" (best part) describes how only a single 'concentrated' sperm is required for successful fertilization. |
30. Humans created from mingled liquidsIndeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.
The Arabic word "nutfaten amshaajen" (mingled liquids) refers to the sperm that is formed of various mixtures and secretions from various glands. |
31. Human baby gender determined by MaleHad he not been a sperm from semen emitted? Then he was a clinging clot, and [ Allah ] created [his form] and proportioned [him] And made of him two mates, the male and the female. Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
The gender (male/female) of a fetus is determined by the male sperm and not the female ovum. It depends on the 23rd pair of chromosomes: XX or XY. |
32. The unborn foetus is protected by three veils of darknessHe creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. Scientists say the three veils of darkness refer to: (i) (ii) (iii) anterior abdominal wall of the mother; the uterine wall; and the amnio-chorionic membrane. |
33. Embryo is part formed and unformedWe created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed
In the early stage of baby's development, some organs are fully formed while others are unformed. |
34. Our Hearing and Seeing are first senses to developIndeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.
By the 24th week of pregnancy, the foetus can hear sounds. This is the first sense to develop in a developing human embryo. By the 28th week, the sense of sight is developed and the unborn foetus' retina becomes sensitive to light. |
35. Our Fingerprints are key to our identityDoes man think that We will not assemble his bones? Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
In 1880, fingerprints became the scientific method of identification. No two persons in the world can ever have the same fingerprint pattern. Therefore police forces worldwide choose to use fingerprints to identify criminals. |
36. Pain receptors present in SkinIndeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise.
Recent scientific discoveries prove their are pain receptors present in our skin through which a person feels pain. |
