Christians in the so-called Islamic State is not justified by Prophet Mohammed’s writings, according to research.

The study into the works of the Muslim prophet written between 622 and 632 AD indicates Christians living within the “ummah” – Arabic for community – were protected and defended.

Craig Considine, the paper's author, considers the prophet's vision of a Muslim nation to be one with religious pluralism and civil rights.

“The research clearly shows that contemporary Islamic states that mistreat and discriminate against Christians cannot be justified in light of Prophet Muhammad’s covenants,” he said.

What is ISIS?

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, Daesh, and other names) is a Salafi jihadist terrorist organisation. It is a former unrecognised proto-state that follows a fundamentalist, Salafi doctrine of Sunni Islam. ISIS gained global prominence in early 2014 when it drove Iraqi government forces out

of key cities in its Western Iraq offensive, followed by its capture of Mosul and the Sinjar massacre.

What is a Prophet?

In religion, a prophet is an individual who is regarded as being in contact with a divine being and is said to speak on that entity's behalf. They claim to be serving as an intermediary with humanity by delivering messages or teachings from the supernatural source to other people. The message that

the prophet conveys is called a prophecy. In Islam, all prophetic messengers are prophets (such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad) though not all prophets are prophetic messengers. The primary distinction is that a prophet is required to demonstrate God's law through his actions, character, and behavior without necessarily calling people to follow him, while a prophetic messenger is required to pronounce God's law (i.e. revelation) and call his people to submit and follow him.
