Michael Brown (born 1955) is a conservative radio host, author, professor. He is a noted proponent of Messianic Judaism and serves as a leader of the Charismatic Movement. Brown also holds a Ph.D in Near Eastern Languages and Literature from New York University. He has held various positions withinacademia. In the past, he has served in visiting or adjunct positions at several seminaries. Brown served as adjunct professor of the Old Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois and adjunct professor of Jewish apologetics at Fuller Theological Seminary School of World Mission. He is also currently the president of practical theology, at the Fellowship for International Revival and Evangelism School of Ministry, where he serves as a professor.
What is Hebrew?
Hebrew is a Northwest Semitic language within the Afroasiatic language family. A regional dialect of the Canaanite languages, it was natively spoken by the Israelites and remained in regular use as a first language until after 200 CE and as the liturgical language of Judaism (since the Second Templeperiod) and Samaritanism. The language was revived as a spoken language in the 19th century, and is the only successful large-scale example of linguistic revival. It is the only Canaanite language still spoken today. It is also one of the only two Northwest Semitic languages with contemporary speakers, the other being Aramaic.
Nearly all of the Hebrew Bible is written in Biblical Hebrew, with much of its present form in the dialect that scholars believe flourished around the 6th century BCE, during the time of the Babylonian captivity.
Who is Yeshua?
Yeshua was a common alternative form of the name "Yehoshua" - Joshua in later books of the Hebrew Bible and among Jews of the Second Temple period. The name corresponds to the Greek spelling Iesous, from which, through the Latin Iesus, comes the English spelling Jesus. The Hebrew spelling Yeshuaappears in some later books of the Hebrew Bible. Once for Joshua the son of Nun, and 28 times for Joshua the High Priest and other priests called Jeshua - although these same priests are also given the spelling Joshua in 11 further instances in the books of Haggai and Zechariah. It differs from the usual Hebrew Bible spelling of Joshua, found 218 times in the Hebrew Bible.
