Who is Reuven Firestone?

Reuven Firestone is the Regenstein Professor in Medieval Judaism and Islam at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Firestone earned his B.A. at Antioch College and was awarded the PhD in Arabic and Islamic studies by New York University in 1988.

Most Jews and Christians have negative perceptions about Ishmael, who is called the Father of the Northern Arabs (Muslims) and the ancestor of Prophet Muhammad. This negative perception is based on a false translation of Genesis 16:12. The Rabbi explains what the verse really means and clears Ishmael of the insults. Rabbi Reuven Firestone is a Professor of Medieval Jewish and Islamic Studies.
