Q What is a Mosque and what happens inside?
A
A Mosque (known in Arabic as a Masjid, meaning "place of prostration") is a communal house of prayer for Muslims. The building serves as the anchor for the local Muslim community. Inside the main prayer hall, which is carpeted and free of chairs or statues to maximize space, Muslims line up shoulder-to-shoulder to perform their daily prayers led by an Imam (prayer leader). In Islam, Mosques also function as community centers, offering religious education, hosting weddings, providing funeral services, and organizing local charitable outreach.
