THE HAGUE — The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) issued a renewed warning over the deteriorating situation facing Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) in Iraq and Syria, describing their survival in their ancestral homeland as increasingly at risk amid insecurity, politicalfragmentation, and targeted violence.
In its recent statement, UNPO said it is “gravely concerned over the deteriorating situation facing Assyrian communities in Iraq and Syria,” adding that the crisis is marked by militia activity, displacement, and political exclusion across the region’s historic Assyrian heartlands. The organization stressed that Assyrians, one of the world’s oldest Indigenous peoples, are now confronting “an accelerating crisis of demographic collapse, militia violence, and political marginalisation.”
