Sky News host Alan Jones says the whole coronavirus story has seen “fear dominate fact” and it is now at work in the reporting of the situation in India.
“We are swamped daily with reported cases
350,000 daily infections representing a 'crisis',” he said.
“But even in India over 99 per cent of these cases are mild.
“We have changed the definition of pandemic, which now seems to relate not to deaths but to cases.”
Mr Jones said he hopes political figures in Australia are not using “this alarmism over India” as a political weapon to tell Australians “we should be grateful for our wonderful politicians because we don’t have India’s problems”.
“I have said from day one, this whole coronavirus story has seen fear dominate fact; it is now at work in the reporting of the Indian situation.”

Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections that are
typically mild, such as the common cold, though rarer forms such as SARS, MERS, and COVID-19 can be lethal. Symptoms vary in other species: in chickens, they cause an upper respiratory tract disease, while in cows and pigs they cause diarrhea. There are yet to be vaccines or antiviral drugs to prevent or treat human coronavirus infections.
