Who Is Prophet Muhammad?
To more than 1.2 billion Muslims around the world, Prophet Muhammad is deeply beloved. He is revered as role model, a teacher, a guide for living a purposeful life on earth, and a beacon pointing toward eternal life.
God chose to reveal the Quran to Prophet Muhammad, whose exemplary character and high moral standards serve as a lifelong model for humanity. His entire life reflected the teachings of
The Quran, he understood it, embodied it, and taught others to live by its principles. When Muslims declare their faith in the One God, they simultaneously affirm that Muhammad is His servant and final messenger.
A Man of Profound Compassion
While fully human, Muhammad stands apart because of his extraordinary love for humanity. He longed for Paradise not just for himself, but for all people. His deep empathy often moved him to tears - not out of self-pity, but out of care for his followers.
The Final Messenger for All Humankind
Muslims also honor other prophets found in Jewish and Christian traditions, including David, Noah, Moses, Abraham and Jesus, recognizing that they all shared the same core message: to worship God alone without partners or offspring.
However, Muhammad holds a unique distinction. Previous prophets were sent to specific communities, regions, or eras for their time. In contrast, Muhammad is the final prophet, and his message is intended for all of people across all times. As stated in the Quran, God sent Muhammad as a mercy for all of us.
We have sent you O Prophet only as a mercy for the whole world. Say, What has been revealed to me is this: 'Your God is only One God.' Will you then submit? If they turn away, then say, I have warned you all equally. I do not know if what you are threatened with is near or far. Allah surely knows what you say openly and whatever you hide.
QURAN 21:107-110
Universal Recognition and Leadership
Throughout history, many non-Muslim figures have also acknowledged his immense influence on both religious and secular fronts. For example, Mahatma Gandhi praised him for his absolute trustworthiness, deep devotion to his friends and followers, fearless integrity, and unwavering trust in God. Through his leadership, Prophet Muhammad established Islam as a comprehensive way of life, founded a community, and instituted a profound moral and legal code rooted in respect, tolerance, and justice.
Dedication and Legacy
For the final 23 years of his life, Muhammad dedicated himself entirely to teaching humanity how to worship God and respect one another. He carried this heavy responsibility with immense care, ensuring the message was delivered precisely as God prescribed, while cautioning his followers not to elevate him beyond his humanity.
His core teachings focused on universal values:
- Loving and obeying God.
- Treating elders with respect and caring for children.
- Recognizing that giving is better than receiving and honoring the dignity of every human life.
- Valuing community stability while upholding individual rights, and living by the rule to love for others what you love for yourself.
- Upholding the spiritual equality of men and women before God, where true distinction is measured solely by piety and devotion.
Ultimately, Muhammad is remembered as a gentle, devoted messenger and prophet sent by God with the simple message to return back to the path of monotheism - the worship of One God and rejection of all other Gods - the same message preached by every prophet that preceeded him.

What is a Prophet? In religion, a prophet is an individual who is regarded as being in contact with a divine being and is said to speak on that entity's behalf. They claim to be serving as an intermediary with humanity by delivering messages or teachings from the supernatural source to other people. The message that the prophet conveys is called a prophecy. In Islam, all prophetic messengers are prophets (such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad) though not all prophets are prophetic messengers. The primary distinction is that a prophet is required to demonstrate God's law through his actions, character, and behavior without necessarily calling people to follow him, while a prophetic messenger is required to pronounce God's law (i.e. revelation) and call his people to submit and follow him.
